STORAGE TIPS |
- Use good quality storage boxes
.
- Fill boxes to capacity. Stacks of partially full
boxes may collapse.
- Heavy items should be packed into small boxes to
make them easier to lift.
- Label boxes for easy reference when you need to
locate your goods.
- Use large boxes for light items and smaller boxes
for heavier items.
- Small boxes are suggested for books, which should be
packed flat to protect their spines.
- Stacking uniform size boxes helps maximize your
available space. Don't stack higher than you can
comfortably reach.
- Place heavy items in the room first to provide a
good stacking base.
- Utilize large items for extra storage space. For
example, refrigerators, freezers and washing machines
are perfect for storing soft items such as linens,
towels and blankets. Wedge doors open to prevent mildew.
- Protect your fragile goods in bubble wrap. Wrap
dishes and glassware individually and pad the box with
packing paper or bubble wrap.
- Take special care when packing mirrors and framed
pictures. Mirror packs or strong cardboard help prevent
damage.
- Allow for proper ventilation by not packing items
right up against the walls.
- Keep your frequently used items where you can easily
reach them. The two things people most frequently return
for are clothes and files. You should label these things
and keep them towards the front of your unit.
- Protect furniture, including mattresses and box
springs, with plastic covers, and stand on end.
- Garden equipment should be cleaned before storing.
- Make an inventory of your stored items and keep it
in a safe place at home. Number your boxes and keep a
list of the contents in your inventory rather than on
the outside of the box.
